Therapy for Dating & Counseling for Singles

  • Burnt out from endless swiping on dating apps?

  • Tired of going on so many first dates without feeling a spark?

  • Discouraged that another promising connection ended up going nowhere?

Dating in New York City is no joke. It can feel confusing, painful, and even defeating.

I help women ages 23 - 38 in New York navigate the complexities of dating and form meaningful, lasting relationships with psychotherapy + CBT techniques.

What is therapy for dating?

In dating therapy, we’ll focus on understanding your relationship patterns, identifying potential barriers to forming healthy connections, and developing strategies to enhance your dating experience.

Key areas of work may include:

  • Explore Relationship Patterns: Exploring your past relationships to understand how they influence dating and relationships for you now

  • Identifying Values: Using values as a guiding compass throughout the dating journey for yourself and your relationship(s)

  • Committing to Values: Using values to make appropriate goals and an action plan to keep yourself accountable and motivated along the way

  • Addressing Roadblocks: Troubleshooting internal and external barriers to you acting on your goals, making more connections, and feeling more fulfilled in your relationships

  • Skills for Difficult Emotions: Managing the fear, anxiety, disappointment, rejection, and a multitude of other emotions that arise during the dating process

  • Acceptance: Exploring how to allow for (or at least tolerate) difficulties and that circumstances that we cannot change

When Do Women Consider Dating Therapy?

Dating therapy with me provides help for women who are experiencing the following:

  • Dating Fear and Anxiety

  • Dating Burnout

  • App Fatigue

  • Difficulty Finding Connection

  • Stuck On an Ex

  • Lots of Dates, No Relationship

How Does My Dating Therapy Work?

Initial Consultation: Your therapy work begins with an initial consultation to discuss your goals, concerns, and what you hope to achieve through dating therapy. This session helps us understand your unique situation and tailor our approach accordingly.

Personalized Sessions: Each session is designed to address your specific needs and progress at a pace that feels comfortable for you. We will explore various aspects of your dating life and work collaboratively to foster growth and positive change.

Ongoing Support: Dating therapy is an ongoing process. Whether you need short-term guidance or long-term support, I’m here to provide continuous encouragement and tools to help you thrive in your love life.

What Do We Talk About In Dating Therapy?

We all carry emotional baggage from the past. Perhaps it's hard for you to make connections. You feel avoidant or uncomfortable being vulnerable in relationships, and this leads to connections not working out.

Maybe you avoid relationships because you feel insecure and anxious in them. Being single for a long stretch has made you question your worth, and you might feel like you’re forced to compromise in ways you would have never considered.

Or you don’t know why you’re making the effort, texting back, asking questions on dates, and “doing the right things” but not getting results.

About
Jacklyn Thomas, LCSW

Ms. Jaclyn Thomas, LMSW

I’ve witnessed remarkable transformations in dating focused therapy clients, in as little as two sessions.

Whether you're new to the dating scene, have experienced relationship challenges, or simply want to understand yourself better in the context of love and connection, you’ll gain the necessary tools to build healthy, satisfying relationships.

I received my Master of Social Work from NYU and have extensive experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and presenting issues. My approach to therapy combines CBT, ACT, and mindfulness to tailor the counseling process to your unique needs. In addition to individuals, I also facilitate the Matching Mindfully: Mindful Dating for Single Women & Adulting with ADHD therapy groups.

When not doing the therapy work I love, you can find me at a meditation retreat, a yoga class, or cooking up (mostly) vegan treats!
